Disappointed

3 out of 5 stars

Disappointed
I haven't tried them yet so I'll update when I do but the package felt a little light. It wasn't as light as I was expecting but still not the 2 lb I was supposed to get. It seems negligible but it adds up if every bag sold is short on weight. Considering the price, I would expect to get what I paid for.

Thank you for your feedback

These are the grits you're looking for.
Lately I've been having grits for breakfast, I put them in a rice cooker on the porridge setting and time them overnight. I've tried Marsh Hen Mill, Atkinson, Professor Torbert's, Bob's Red Mill, and Palmetto Farms. Palmetto Farms is quite good, these here are the best.
I aim for a certain texture, and with Palmetto Farms, I get it with 1/3 of a cup grits, and 12 oz of water. With the Carolina Plantation, it's 1/3 of a cup and 16 ounces of water. That's how much more they'll plump up, and Palmetto Farms is already some good cookin.
The texture is: I don't want to say smoother, these are grits, but softer perhaps. The bits are just slightly more plump, and the hominy flavor really comes through. Simple and satisfying, and I do not tire of them.
If you want the best Southern grits you can buy on Amazon, get these. If you don't, what are you reading this for? Get them grits!

This is the real deal. Stone ground to the perfect consistency and taste for true Charleston gits. Perfect for shrimp and grits. Just remember great grits are not made in 10 minutes but 30.

You know, the biggest problem some people have with 'grits' is the name. It's understandable that some folks might not want to eat a food whose name makes it sound like it's going to taste… well, gritty. That might be true for anyone who hasn't actually eaten this great food, or maybe grown up enjoying it in a long ago childhood.
For those who may not know, The word "grits" derives from the Old English word "grytt," meaning coarse meal. Grits is a food of Native American origin common in the Southern United States and mainly eaten at breakfast. Modern grits is commonly made of alkali-treated corn known as hominy.
With that said, you cook it in a pot with boiling water, somewhat like you would with oatmeal — only with more water, a lower temperature, and a little longer cooking time. The grits itself is a rather neutral tasting porridge, so you can flavor it to your own tastes — either with milk and sugar, or with butter and salt.
But enough with the recipes. If you've never tried grits, find a restaurant that serves it and give it a try. If you like grits already, then this 2 pound bag of Carolina Plantation Grits has got your name on it, neighbor. It comes in a soft cotton cloth bag, which is good because as usual Amazon's delivery comes flying through the door so fast you'll want to duck.

I have ordered these repeatedly. They are our absolute favorite! We were gifted a bag years ago and now I never want to be without them! I make them in the Instant Pot and they have great flavor and are super creamy. So much better than any instant type of grits.

My parents were from North Carolina and I grew up being fed stone-ground hominy grits and loving them. Now I live in Hawaii and can't get them in any store here. So I am delighted to find them on Amazon. These Carolina Plantation Grits are quite good. I'd like them just a little bit coarser, but will definitely buy more of these.

Carolina Plantation grits are tops. If you like grits, you cannot end your shopping with store-bought, Quaker, Jim Dandy and others. There is simply no comparison to any of the grits made in South Carolina, and Carolina Plantation is at the top of SC's offerings, There is a distinct pleasant, fresh corn flavor that you will not find in grits from outside SC (or maybe one or two North GA gristmills). Cost? Who cares! Decent food and ingredients like the Carolina Plantation grits are worth it. Follow the directions on the package or web-search methods for cooking. These grits take 2-4 hours of cooking, but, again, it is worth it — simply plan ahead.
