Polished 316 stainless steel links make for an attractive and highly corrosion resistant chain
When I first opened the package I was pleasantly surprised by how attractive the polished links of this chain are (pictured). Polished 316 stainless steel is highly corrosion resistant and very well suited to the marine environment, which is where I'll be using this as a lead chain for my dinghy anchor. Link welds aren't the neatest I've ever seen and I did find a couple of tiny, thin metal protrusions on two welds which were easily removed by bending a few times. I'd recommend checking in order to avoid the chance of getting a small but potentially painful cut if the chain is sliding through your hands. Overall the chain is attractive and construction is serviceable, certainly more than strong and durable enough for my intended employment. My measurements of link and shackle diameters matched those in the listing but chain length was just shy of the 5 fool listing at 59" (pictured). Testing with a magnet evidenced weak magnetism with chain links, as expected with marine grade 316 stainless steel. Magnetism of the shackles was somewhat greater but still consistent with marine grade stainless steel. Contrary to a common belief 300 series stainless steel which has been cold worked, as would be the case with shackles, can develop a degree of magnetism due to a change in the physical structure of the metal, but it remains just as corrosion resistant. One of the listing pictures indicates that the shackles are “double threaded” and particularly resistant to loosening. However the shackles I received are entirely conventional. As with any such shackle if you want to guard against all possibility of loosening you should seize the pin with wire. I am confident this chain will serve very well in its intended role.

    I Ordered 316 stainless steel chain and shackels, which is non- magnetic. All of the Reacts to a Magnet.. I would return it but don't have the plastic bag it came in.

    This is very heavy duty chain, suitable for anchoring light to medium boats or other heavy duty applications. I'm not sure if I'd trust 9000lb claim on this chain, but it looks like it can hold a ton for sure, if not more (in my mind I'm struggling to see it pull straight up anything more than a Harley). -1 star because my chain was actually 4'4", not 5', as advertised. In terms of length, it means it's borderline useless for anchoring. Luckily, I'm using it for securing some equipment and just over 4' length is perfect for my application.

    Well built, but only came with 1 shackle despite the advertisement and picture showing 2. It was the correct length and I was able to make it work, but I had to spend money out of pocket to replace the missing hardware.
